Frequently Asked Questions
Everything our customers ask before their first order — and a few things worth knowing after it arrives.
Do the soaps contain perfume?
No synthetic perfume, ever. Every scent comes from pure essential oils sourced in Grasse, the historic center of French perfumery. What you smell is the oil itself — lavender, rose, verbena — not a fragrance compound built to imitate it.
What size are the bars?
Our 125g (4.4 oz) bars measure approximately 3.4 × 2.2 × 1 inches (8.6 × 5.6 × 2.5 cm) — about the size of a deck of cards, and satisfyingly dense in the hand. Triple milling presses the soap into a firm, compact bar, so it lasts four to six weeks of daily use — considerably longer than a standard pressed soap of the same size.
Can I use the soap on my face as well as my body?
Yes. The bars are made with 72% organic olive oil and retain their natural glycerin, so they are gentle on facial skin as well as the body.
Are your soaps good for sensitive skin?
Yes. The base of every bar is 72% organic olive oil with shea butter and retained glycerin — a formulation chosen precisely because it is gentle. Our soaps are used daily by customers with sensitive and reactive skin, and the fragrance comes from pure essential oils rather than synthetic perfume.
What do you use for coloring?
Natural clay. No artificial dyes or synthetic colorants of any kind.
Where are your soaps made?
In Provence, in the South of France, using traditional methods. Essential oils come from Grasse.
What does “Averal” mean?
“Averal” comes from Occitan — the historic language of Provence — and means authentic, genuine, real. It is the standard every bar is held to.
What does triple-milled mean?
The soap paste is passed through rollers three times, pressing out excess moisture and air. The result is a denser, harder bar that lathers richly, holds its scent to the last use, and lasts considerably longer than ordinary soap.
Will the bar dissolve in my shower?
No — triple-milled soap is firm and doesn't turn soft in the dish the way ordinary soap does. It produces a rich lather even in hard water. Keeping it drained between uses — a slotted dish or a muslin bag — extends its life further.
How long does a bar last?
Four to six weeks of daily use.
Are your products tested on animals?
No. Cruelty free, pure vegetal.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes — free US shipping on orders over $70.
What is your return policy?
Returns within 14 days of delivery, unopened and unused, with return shipping paid by the customer. Damaged or incorrect items are replaced free.
Are the soaps individually wrapped?
Yes — every bar arrives wrapped, and gift sets are boxed ready to give.
